Mea culpa: the first edition of yesterday’s post misnamed one of the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament finalists. The one who placed third was Will Nediger. Time regrets the error.
Of all the spots in Ohio to observe the eclipse, Janice and I picked what may have been the most appropriate: the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta. In 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon; yesterday, the moon took revenge by walking on us.
Our neighbors included Mark and Lynn, two lovely retirees from healthcare (that's Lynn resting on Mark there, about twenty minutes before totality)—
—and Enzo, who didn’t entirely understand why his humans were so relaxed about the sun going out. “Whatever’s blocking the whole sun…it must be huge! WHY AREN’T YOU RUNNING FROM IT???”
But my most important viewing buddy was Janice, who had missed out on the 2017 crossing. She wasn’t gonna miss this one, and I wasn’t gonna miss a chance to share it with her.
We’re still making our way back home as this post goes out—traffic in the post-eclipse hours was about as slow as expected. But the joy is worth the journey.
Next: a micross!
