You may recall that I wrote about lost works, both ancient and modern, here, and that one piece I missed was the legendary Satire: Veritas. With Michael Helsem’s selfless aid, a digital version has come into my possession. From what I’ve seen so far, it’s as wild as its reputation. It mixes English, Latin, French, and other languages in a way you just don’t see these days, and the meaning is challenging in all of them. But I feel like there’s a kind of glory to its madness. And every so often, a cool sentence or phrase emerges from the static, like a radio tuned in to some wise but alien world.
I’m looking into ways I can spread it to the general public (without leaving myself open to any legal issues). But until I sort that out, here’s a sample from the first page (which, in a way, is also a sample from the last page):
