Update: On a Bug Hunt!
And a home-front update, too.
I take a lot of pride in my productivity. But every once in a while, I can’t make a self-imposed deadline. This usually happens when (1) something crops up in my personal life that swallows more time than I could’ve guessed or (2) there are more problems with the work in production than I anticipated. This week, I’ve experienced the delights of both.
On the personal front, we’ve become aware of a crisis in our kitchen. A dishwasher drainage issue led us to discover a leaky pipe, and that led us to discover a mold colony. In one sense, this was fortunate: the colony is not yet developed enough to be a serious threat to our health (or that of the curious cats). But it must be eliminated before that changes, and that’s not going to be an easy job.
I’ll share an update now and then, but so far it’s been a lot of checking and planning. We know our place doesn’t have asbestos in it, but since we can’t locate documentation of that, we need to test that before we can do anything else.
Still, that hasn’t been today’s main issue with getting out the collection PDFs. I’ve found multiple unexpected issues with the microstics. I always meant for the PDF collections to be a little rough; minor aesthetic issues are not a concern here.
But this problems are problems that affect the solving experience in a more direct way—old drafts of the puzzles coexisting with the current ones, minor edits I thought I’d made already, and problems with the emoji titles. I feel like the job’s a few hours from being completed now, but I would’ve said the same thing a few hours ago.
The micross collection isn’t likely to have as many problems, but I’ll want to give it a thorough test too, at this point.
So here’s the deal. The PDF roughs will release before Christmas, and I’ll be updating this feed with some other odds and ends tomorrow morning. Monday’s probably going to be the PDF release day, but that assumes these collections don’t have any more surprises for me. See you in the morning!
