I have some non-Ubercross projects to brag about!
ITEM! I’ve started work on a new comics series for Webtoon! I can tell you almost nothing about it, except that it’s going to be the most “puzzly” series the service has ever published—maybe the most “puzzly” comic ever made. (That’s right, we’re coming for you, Slylock Fox!) Some of my idle musings in this very Substack may end up being warm-up exercises for it. (And I’ve got some fun stuff cued up for this space over the next couple of weeks.)
There’s no telling what might emerge from the thoughts expressed here. Which brings me to…
ITEM! I’m putting together a collection of microcrostics!
Back at this post, I noticed that The New York Times was dropping acrostics from its online offerings. Now it’s unclear whether it’ll be keeping them in print as well. Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon, the NYT’s master acrostic-makers, are ending their run, with no word on whether anyone will succeed them.
In that post, I proposed that making an acrostic out of fewer entries than its usual 20-25 might be a good way to keep interest in this type of puzzle alive. Then I made one. (It had six entries.) And now, thanks to Alex Boisvert’s software help and encouragement, I’m making some more.
I’ll debut a preview version of the collection at our table at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, and make it available via Kickstarter a bit after that. Stay tuned.
ITEM! Janice and I are headed to the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament! You probably figured that out already. Um…we’ll have a table! Okay, I’m done.
