I’m taking it a bit easy with this update while I work on something new, but I wanted to give you a peek into my process.
I’m not a master programmer by any means, but my limited Excel skills have been good to me. Thanks to them (and coding ideas I’ve borrowed online), I can now take any long list of data and determine whether any two (or more) strings are anagrams of each other. I can also more specifically detect reversals (also known as semordnilaps). I’ve got macros and/or methods to find palindromes, nested words, and the presence or absence of key letters.
I’m not going to post those resources directly here, but I will send them to anyone upon request. My email is tcampbell1000@gmail.com.
What I’m still working on at the moment is a system to convert word data into its pronounced form…converting AAA to ˌtɹɪpəˈleɪ and so on. This would help me do the same kind of broad detection on puns (since raise and raze, in their phonetic forms, would be identical). It’d also let me research rhymes and other lesser-known word manipulations.
If there’s software you’ve found helpful when it comes to doing similar research, you can either post it in the comments or email it to me directly. Soon enough, I’ll be sharing more of the results from what I’ve got, and what I’m developing…
