
Yesterday, I posted Lori Wike’s one-line haiku for the journal. Perhaps it’d be a little less puzzling if I posted it the way she originally colored it:
From here, the solution is to read first only red letters, then all letters, then only black letters. In some cases, respacing will be necessary. This will get you to:
IDLE RED MIST WEPT

Having tried to compose one of these myself in response, I can testify that it’s quite the challenge! You’ve basically got to find a seven-syllable line that conceals two five-syllable lines within it, make sure that none of the hidden words are the same (or have the same root) as the words in the main line, and pluck three extra syllables out of…the ether. Kudos to Lori.
