Sorry, I had some more language/image thoughts scheduled for today, but I have to interrupt myself: there are a few announcements that just won’t wait!
Last weekend, I caught the Trolls 3 trailer, which featured this delightful line, a reference to four different boy bands:
Branch, we’re out of sync. We’ve gone from boys to men and now there’s only one direction for us to go: the back streets. [NSYNC, Boys II Men, One Direction, the Backstreet Boys]
To those in the know, this twenty-four-word string has some added comedy value: Justin Timberlake, who plays Branch, began his career as a member of NSYNC.
There must’ve been other lines of dialogue that strung together behind-the-scenes references to an actor’s career this smoothly, with one for every six words (four in twenty-four). I just can’t think of any right now. Can you? If not, I’d be interested in anyone’s attempt at composing one!
Tonight (Monday, April 17) at about 9 PM Eastern, I’ll be with John Lieb on the Boswords Twitch Stream at https://www.twitch.tv/boswords. The quick segment will be live, but with a recording for later viewing. We’ll be talking mostly the Ubercross project—Lieb’s child has taken a special interest in it, which fills me with a special kind of joy.
This Friday is the official submission deadline for The Journal of Wordplay’s first issue, and from what I’ve got already, it’s promising to be a good read! But there are still a few submissions I’m hoping to get before we start laying out the table of contents. I’ll share some previews of the material and process milestones once we’re underway.
I’ll be sending out a round of invitations to submit to the second issue today, though such an invitation also applies if you’ve submitted to the first. And I’ve got a bit of weekend correspondence to catch up on…so if you’re waiting to hear from me, it shouldn’t be long!
