Pixie Trix Comix Five and Six!
"Sex" would be an acceptable typo there.
My friend and part-time employer Gisele Lagace has her latest Kickstarter going. As you may or may not know, I edit this series in all its sex-positive glory, so I’m happy to mark the milestone of its fifth and sixth collections.
I also wrote the jacket copy for both volumes, which is visible on the Kickstarter page but also shared below.
Writing promo copy like this is an interesting challenge: you want to reveal enough to engage people without giving away the store. And after the first volume, it’s better to write as if the readers are familiar with the characters—even if they’re not. I’m especially happy with Volume 6, which uses a question-and-answer format to underscore how the plots don’t always deliver simple answers.
VOLUME 5:
Fresh from her breakup with Zadie, Roxie’s gone back to her first loves: challenging WW3 wrestlers and KICKING ASS. Being herself—her “Roxxy” self—has won her enemies, but also admirers. For her, even a dark match is less intimidating than starting up dating again. Aaron’s social circle is shifting too: a few friendships with benefits are evolving…but the real question is, can he and Zadie form a working partnership to support Roxie? Plus, the WW3 team championship belt is up for grabs. Who will get it…and what will be the price?
VOLUME 6:
It’s another comics launch party, which Tess plans to use to step up her relationship with Dora. Will that work out for her? Yes and no. Gwynn’s also attending that party despite her volatile relationships with some other attendees. Will that work out for her? Not really! Axl is seeking a new girlfriend but still has harsh truths to face about himself. Will that work out for him? Yes and no, then maybe yes again. And Tina’s going home with Aaron for “friends with benefits” sex but crushing hard on Zadie. Will that work out for her? Yes! …For HER.
Because later stories have focused more on wrestling than comics sales or production, it has gotten more and more challenging to follow our established tradition of using comics jargon for the chapter headers. I’ll be taking a shot at that today, though!
