Can you elaborate at some point about time not being kind to Britannica, OED, and World Book? OED still seems robust, but online only. (I've subscribed at $100/year for OED for a while and use it pretty often, and it still is revised.) Britannica still exists, but online. I saw a note in Wikipedia saying that World Book still is ordered but has mostly institutional customers.
I was probably being a little too cute when I said time had not been kind to their weight, meaning that their existence as print monuments is mostly behind them. OED has done well in the digital world. Britannica has done okay, though it's lost some ground to Wikipedia. You're probably right about World Book; I'll lookthat up later. Anyway, it's the notion that knowledge has a weight that only really exists in my memory these days. I'll see if I can tweak the above to clarify.
